The Wichita Public School district, in cooperation with the Wichita Police Department, currently has a police officer assigned, full time, to all Middle and High Schools during the school year. The officers serve as teachers, mentors, and role models as part of their duty. The Wichita Crime Commission has been supportive of this outstanding program since its inception. The Commission’s Board of Directors meets annually, over breakfast, with all SROs, their supervisors, members of the school district board, administrators and members of the city’s governing body to plan for the upcoming school year. Commission currently has a SRO Liaison program in which a commission member is assigned to each school so that he/she can meet one on one with SROs and determine how the Crime Commission can be of service to them.
