SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS
Due to necessary budget cuts by the school district and city government the number of School Resource Officers has decreased from 22 to 11, in the 2009/2010 school year. Full time SROs are assigned to 7 high schools leaving 4 officers to attempt to cover 16 middle schools. The Commission lobbied long and hard to avoid losing SROs at each middle school, however, we were unsuccessful. The remaining officers continue to serve as teachers, mentors and role models as part of their duty. The commission is very supportive of this very important proactive policing program and will continue to work to have officers full time, at all middle and high schools.
